Guan Eng to sue Malay daily

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng plans to sue a local Malay daily over an article which stated he was in charge of Muslim endowment land (tanah wakaf) in Penang.
He refuted the claim made in an article on 10 April, 2015 which he described as a "lie, fabrication and falsehood."
Lim said the statement was slanderous against the state government as well as against the administration of Islam in Penang.
"The Chief Minister was never involved in the management of endowment land, I have asked my lawyers to take legal action," he said in a press conference today.
Backing him up was Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim and Penang Islamic Religious Council president Datuk Salleh Man.
Abdul Malik said since Pakatan Rakyat (PR) assumed administrative control in March 2008, Lim was never involved in managing such land.
Salleh also made a statuary declaration to that effect with a copy distributed to pressmen in attendance.
On a similar note, Penang Health Committee chairman and national Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Youth deputy chief Dr Afif Bahardin said he was also mulling his legal options over another Malay daily front page article on Thursday.
He said he did not make the remarks regarding the Permatang Pauh election about PAS fielding a candidate to contest the seat.
Dr Afif said what he said was based on the commitment given by Penang PAS deputy commissioner Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa on supporting the PKR candidate.
"I suggest the paper retract the article and apologise to me and I will explore my legal options at the same time," he added.
