PUTRAJAYA: The Royal Floria Putrajaya 2015 flower festival is back for the eight consecutive year and will feature 400,000 different species of flowers and trees, many of which are guaranteed to be new to visitors.
Deputy Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Loga Bala Mohan said the festival, which is taking place from May 30 to June 7, includes 50 participants from 28 different countries.
These include Australia, Cambodia, Canada, China, Denmark, Ecuador, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Oman, Phillippines, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, and the UK.
Speaking at the festival's soft launch today at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Loga Bala said last year's festival attracted more than 700,000 tourists and Royal Floria Putrajaya 2015 is expected to see about a million visitors this year.
The festival aims to reproduce springtime gardens and winter gardens, which feature artificial snow to simulate conditions that could not be found in Malaysia under normal circumstances.
Loga Bala said the government is considering to open the festival to all schools throughout Malaysia for free so that students can witness the beauty of flora without charges.
Tickets are currently selling for RM5 for adults and RM1 for children, with an extra RM3 for entrance to the Winter Gardens, and Nadi Putra shuttle bus services will be provided by Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj).
