PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry today launched the 3K (kebersihan, kesihatan and keselamatan) programme with the aim of increasing awareness among school students with regards to issues related to school safety and health and cleanliness.
Deputy Education Minister II, P. Kamalanathan said this programme promotes a concept that combines the three separate programmes into one, known as the Initiative to Improve
    School safety, Health and Beautification.
"The programme was initiated in conjunction with the Malaysian Education Development Plan 2013-2025."
"The 3K programme implemented in schools not only to succeed in enhancing the beauty and cheerfulness of the school, but also to foster closer relations between the schools and the Parent-Teacher Association as well as the local community," Kamalanathan said in his speech after officiating the 3K Programme by the Education Ministry in collaboration with Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad.
He said the programme would also provide an opportunity to any of the selected 32 schools to experience that joy indeed exists in education.
"A school that is that is beautiful in many aspects is not only pleasing to the eyes or is a source of pride to the community, more importantly it is also able to produce students who excel academically," he added.
University Putra Malaysia (UPM) will be in charge of researching the impact of the programme as focus groups have been formed in handling the efficiency of the programme among schools.
Meanwhile, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Managing Director, Saw Chooi Lee said that the 3K programme would also educate school students to ensure they prioritise healthy lifestyle in their daily routine.
"I would like point out that our headquarters in Holland conducted a survey called 'East Asian Nutrients Surveys' comprising 16,000 childrens from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
"The survey results showed that most of the children from Asian region suffer from nutrient deficiency namely, Vitamin D and Calcium...so there is a purpose too as we are doing our part as well in making this programme successful," said Saw.
