Missing Indonesian girl found buried in backyard in Bali
JAKARTA: Police on the resort island of Bali gave details Thursday about the discovery of the body of a missing girl, in a case that has shocked many in Indonesia.
The eight-year-old Indonesian girl, Angeline, was reported missing by her adopted mother last month.
Police found Angeline's body buried with her doll in the backyard of her adopted family's house in Denpasar on Wednesday, the capital of the Indonesian resort island of Bali, local police chief Ronnie Sompie told Metro TV.
A guard working at the house has been named a suspect, Denpasar police chief Anak Agung Gede Sudana told reporters. The guard admitted to having raped the girl, but denied killing her, he said.
A doctor who performed the autopsy said Angeline died three weeks ago of severe head trauma after being hit by a large object, and that parts of her body showed signed of physical abuse.
Police were questioning six other people, including the girl's adopted mother, who had refused to meet visiting child protection officials and two cabinet ministers while the search was ongoing.
The discovery of Angeline's body shocked Indonesia following a widespread social media campaign to find her. – dpa
