KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has selected the Public Works Institute of Malaysia (Ikram) to handle rehabilitation work at the hill slope at Jalan Parlimen and Jalan Kinabalu, following fears of a landslide occurring in the area.
Work on the project which commenced on March 3 is slated to be completed by Oct 18 this year.
Speaking to the reporters after attending the city landslide briefing session here today, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tan Sri Ahmad Phesal Talib said DBKL had so far identified more than 600 hill slope areas that are prone to landslides including Jalan Parlimen and Jalan Kinabalu which is located near the Bukit Aman Police headquarters.
He said the Kuala Lumpur Slope Information System (Kulsis), a system that was set up as preparation by DBKL and Ikram to provide measures in curbing landslides is efficient and records all updates on landslide issues.
On the public's fear of landslides occurring during the rainy season, Ahmad Phesal said with regards to land owned by private developers, letters directing them to follow guidelines provided by DBKL and Ikram have been sent out.
"I urge private developers who own lands around Kuala Lumpur to approach DBKL or Ikram to get a second opinion if they have any doubts on the guidelines provided," he added.
Also present during the briefing were Ikram Chief Operating Officer Mohd Taufik Haron and Bukit Aman Department of Logistics director Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah.
