GEORGE TOWN: A feisty onlooker heroically helped stop a snatch thief in his tracks after the latter had snatched the purse of a woman who was having lunch at Lebuh Melayu here.
The 36-year-old suspect, who attempted to flee on his motorcycle, was apprehended by the man at about 11am today after he rammed his car against the suspect's motorcycle.
The suspect was handed over to the police by members of the public who came forward to help.
Northeast district police chief Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the purse was subsequently returned to the woman.
"The suspects have three previous records for theft and the motorcycle he rode was reported missing", he said in a statement.
Mior said the suspect will be remanded for further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for snatch theft.
