Police to probe Tun M over blog post

GEORGE TOWN: Several police reports have been lodged against former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over a controversial blog posting earlier this month.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police will commence investigations on the former premier based on the reports lodged a few days ago.
"We will probe him for defamation," he told a press conference after witnessing the handover of duties ceremony between outgoing Penang police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Hanafi and new chief Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab.
In the Feb 5 posting titled: Malaysia's Shame on chedet.cc, Dr Mahathir took Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali to task over his decision not to charge Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, saying he lacked credibility.
Dr Mahathir also said that Mohamed Apandi has not only dismissed, but hidden reports by Bank Negara Malaysia and the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission.
In another development, Khalid said police will take action against blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris or better known as Papagomo for allegedly assaulting a foreign worker after a video clip of the alleged assault went viral on social media.
He said they have yet to record statement from the victim but stressed that Papagomo has been urged to cooperate with the police on the matter.
"We need to get the statement from the victim," he said.
In the four-minute clip, Papagomo was seen slapping, punching and kicking a Pakistani worker in an undisclosed location.
The video clip was uploaded on his Facebook page Sir Azri, where he also posted a description of what had transpired on the day of the incident, which he said took place on Jan 29.
Wan Azri said he made the move after he discovered that the foreigner had allegedly performed lewd acts before two of his sisters and two of their female friends.
