Penang to give full cooperation on federal govt road projects

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang DAP government will give full cooperation to the federal government in ensuring the success of road projects under the Ministry of Works in the state, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
He said he was prepared to cooperate in terms of land acquisition and work approvals to implement seven projects worth RM1.96 billion which had been approved for 2016 and 2017 under the 11th Malaysia Plan.
He said one of the seven projects was a new project which was to build the road from the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Bridge to the Merdeka Bridge, Seberang Perai Utara costing RM340.4 million.
"The six other projects are continuing projects. Nonetheless, the state government thanks the Works Ministry for approving these projects," he said in a statement, here today.
He said the state government was also hoping more new road projects instead of continuing projects would be approved such as the construction of several flyovers including Jalan Tun Dr Awang to Relau, at Persimpangan Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah/Jalan Tengah to the Penang International Airport, at Jalan Permatang Pauh to Jalan Tun Hussein Onn, Seberang Jaya to the Juru Toll Plaza and the Jalan Mahsuri underpass to Kampung Jawa at Bayan Baru.
In addition, he said, several road widening projects were also hoped to receive federal government approvals including Jalan Juru to Jalan Tok Kanggar, Jalan Tanjung Tokong to Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang as well in Jalan Paya Terubong. — Bernama
