Second accused in Morais' murder trial engages new counsel

KUALA LUMPUR: An accused in the murder trial of deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais has appointed new lawyers to represent him in the case.
G.Gunasekaran, 45, who was offered an alternative charge last month of concealing the body and disposing of a vehicle, has appointed lawyers S.Ramesh Sivakumar and Casey Goik.
Ramesh informed High Court criminal deputy registrar Noor Aini Yusof about the new appointment when the case came up for case management today.
Under the alternative charge, Gunasekaran is charged with concealing a body and disposing of a vehicle with the number plate WA 6264Q, with the intention to protect or prevent the six offenders from legal punishment.
The six are S. Ravi Chandran, 45, S. Nimalan, 23, A. Thinesh Kumar, 26, M. Vishwanath, 26, R. Dinishwaran, 24, and pathologist Col Dr K. Kunaseegaran, 53.
He is alleged to have committed the offence between Jalan Dutamas 1, Sentul and an oil palm estate in Kampong Sungai Samak, Hutan Melintang, Hilir Perak, Perak, between 7am on Sept 4, 2015 and 2am on Sept 5, 2015.
The charge is under Section 201 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine, on conviction.
He claimed trial to the charge.
