19, 073 women involved in online business registered with SSM till March

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Negara was told today 19,073 women nationwide registered as owners of online businesses as of March this year.
Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Paduka Chew Mei Fun (pix) said, of the total, 17,969 registered under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 and 1,104 people as company shareholders under the Companies Act 2016.
“The number of women as company directors of online businesses is 1,124, " she said when replying to a question from Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor who wanted to know efforts to increase job opportunities for the B40 group (household income at bottom 40 per cent), especially single mothers in rural areas including online business courses.
To increase the participation of women, particularly single mother in the online business, Chew said the ministry work closely with e-commerce centres and Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) to encourage the participation of women and the registration of their business.
So far four ‘one SSM’ carnivals had been implemented by SSM which also involved the participation of women and single women associations throughout the country.
She said initial training for women with the potential to become entrepreneurs under the ministry’s programme and cooperation between the ministry and other agencies are also provided to them.
“For women entrepreneurs who have managed to escape poverty, they will continue to be given guidance and a certificate to qualify as entrepreneurs,” she said.
Among the courses and assistance carried out are the single mothers’ skills incubator, women entrepreneurs incubator and women bazaar that include tailoring, beauty and others to enable these women to generate income for their families.
"All these programmes will continue, including funding by MARA (Majlis Amanah Rakyat) and through 1AZAM programmes that have helped to produce many entrepreneurs among women and single mothers," she said. — Bernama
