KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development will cooperate with the proposal to have a special card for babies with wet nurses.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said it would organise courses or talks about the card so that the public would understand its significance.
"The ministry supports any advice from the ulama to foster values of the Muslim community. If need be, we will provide further information to mothers on this," she told reporters after officiating the closing of the 2016 World Muslim Women Summit and Exhibition (WISE) here today.
She was commenting on the proposal by Federal Territory Mufti Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri yesterday to create a special card stating the relationship between a wet nurse and a child as there were many women today who breastfed other people's babies.
Also present at the closing ceremony was the director-general of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) Tan Sri Othman Mustapha who also welcomed the idea for the card.
Meanwhile, in KUALA KANGSAR, the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the government, including the National Registration Department, should look at the suggestion.
He added that it should also be discussed by the National Fatwa Council and the Rulers' Council.
Asyraf said the proposal could prevent issues which contravened Islamic laws. — Bernama
