SHAH ALAM: People who rely on sign language can start following state assembly proceedings next year when it will be interpreted live on TV Selangor.
Selangor legislative speaker Hannah Yeoh (Dap-Subang Jaya) (pix) said TV Selangor is currently doing a trial run during the ongoing state assembly sitting until the session is over.
"The trial run is a step forward to making the state assembly a more inclusive institution," Yeoh told a press conference at the state assembly's annex building today.
She urged those who rely on sign language to tune in to TV Selangor and provide feedback on the trial run so that it can be improved before it's fully implemented next year.
Yeoh added that the interpreters will work in shifts as it is unrealistic to expect a single person to translate proceedings through the whole day.
Meanwhile, she also denied any favouritism towards government assemblymen over those in the Opposition when approving or rejecting motions.
Out of seven motions submitted for this sitting, Yeoh said, five were rejected and three of those were submitted by government assemblymen from PKR and DAP.
Sulaiman Abdul Razak (BN-Permatang) earlier said it was regrettable that Yeoh rejected his motion to strengthen Selangor's Syariah Courts.
Sulaiman said her reasons for rejecting did not make sense and Selangor BN will continue to pursue the agenda of strengthening Islam in the state.
