Salleh: Bersih’s 'poor' turnout proof of rakyat’s rejection

PETALING JAYA: Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak today claimed that the "poor" Bersih turnout showed that Malaysians rejected Bersih and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's new party.
He said Mahathir's presence at yesterday's rally was supposed to attract the Malays into supporting Pakatan Harapan's Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and Bersih 5, but said the turnout figure showed otherwise.
"The demonstration only saw 3% of that who came for the previous Bersih rally last year. Only 15,000 came this time, compared to the 500,000 that Bersih claimed were present during Bersih 4.
"What this meant is the majority of Malaysians reject Bersih's hipocrisy and PPBM," he said in a statement today.
However, it is estimated that over 100,000 supporters had turned up for the rally on Saturday.
Salleh Said said the public were able to see for themselves that PPBM is only a party filled with failed, former leaders, and that it was only formed by Dr Mahathir to allow his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir to helm as Prime Minister.
"The Malays have realised Dr Mahathir's greedy personal agenda and thus not joining Bersih.
He claimed that thousands of Chinese who joined Bersih last year did not participate this year due to Dr Mahathir joining the rally.
