Lim Lip Eng escapes suspension over 'harsh' remarks made against speaker

KUALA LUMPUR: The government withdrew a motion to suspend Lim Lip Eng (pix) (DAP-Segambut) after he retracted his "harsh" remarks against Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman said the government was willing to withdraw the motion if Lim apologised.
"I am willing to retract my harsh words," Lim said in the Dewan Rakyat today, as soon as Azalina tabled the motion.
"I was informed that the Speaker is willing to accept an open apology from Segambut. Plus the government will withdraw the motion," she said.
Lim then stood up to thank Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee.
He had on Oct 25 reportedly called Pandikar a "disgrace" to Parliament after a heated argument with the Speaker in the special chambers during a sitting.
Lim had said the Speaker was "appointed by Malaysian Official One" unlike the MPs who are elected by the people.
Pandikar, who was upset with the remarks, ejected him out of the special chambers.
Immediately after the motion was withdrawn, Lim stood up to raise an issue of alleged corruption in Parliament.
He said he received complaints that the security guards at the Parliament building were asking for "parking fees".
"There have been complaints that the guards on duty at the public parking in the vicinity were asking for RM10 from people who want to park in the premise.
"I do not want to just protect the Dewan but also want to (keep it) clean from corruption. I want serious action taken on those who have accepted bribes," Lim said.
Kiandee said he will inform the Parliament administration to investigate the matter.
