Golden opportunity

DURING ATC’s 27th Grand Convocation Ceremony recently, a young legal scholar, Tan Yuan Ling was overjoyed to complete her degree as it would mark her first steps into the legal world.
Unbeknown to her then, her joy was to be doubled as she was chosen to be the first ever recipient of the Datuk Shyamala Alagendra’s prize. This prestigious award allows her to do an internship at Temple Garden’s Chamber Office at The Hague under the mentorship of Shyamala and world renowned QC Karim Khan.
The Hague is home to the United Nations International Court and the International Criminal Court.
This is no coincidence, seeing as how members of Temple Garden Chambers have substantial experience advising and representing governments, political leaders, the military, corporations, international bodies and victim groups in international law cases.

As an international prosecutor, Shyamala has prosecuted in leading cases in East Timor, before the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL) and at the International Criminal Court (ICC) while Karim specialises in all areas of public international law, international criminal and human rights law, sports law, international arbitration, extradition, media law and major commercial fraud cases.
Therefore, it is clear that Yuan Ling will receive top guidance in the fascinating areas of legal practice that she will probably not get anywhere else.
