SHE took a nap and woke up 3 months later. Ummu Diyana Ibrahim, 24, felt tired while driving to her hometown in Pendang, Kedah from Behrang, Perak. She stopped at RnR (Rest and Relaxation) Bukit Gantang to take a short nap, leaving the car engine and air con on.
"That is the last thing I remember," she said.
She was rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar and was diagnosed to have suffered carbon monoxide poisoning.
"While I was in coma, I could hear and see what was happening around me. I could not respond. It was as though by body was locked," she said.
Doctors wanted to perform a tracheal intubation, but her family did not want to go ahead with the procedure fearing future complications.
"My parents never gave up on me, they kept talking to me, urging me to blink, cry, or grasp their hand."
Ummu Diyana "woke" up from her coma on the day before the doctors wanted to go ahead with the tracheal intubation.
She is now a student at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok, determined to succeed in her studies.
Due to her ordeal, she has slight nerve problems in her leg and needs to walk with crutches for now.
The brave woman has no fear in driving despite what has happened.
