PETALING JAYA: WCT Holding Bhd’s unincorporated 50:50 joint venture (JV) with Arabtec Construction LLC (ATC) in Doha, Qatar, is being sued for 107.73 million dirham (RM130.56 million) by Triumpher Steel Construction Group Ltd (TSC) in relation to the Nad Al Sheba Dubai Racecourse project.
TSC was the JV’s subcontractor in respect of certain steel-related works but the subcontract was terminated back in 2009.
In a filing with the stock exchange, WCT said its Middle East regional office in Doha had on March 6 received from the Dubai International Arbitration Center a request for arbitration dated Feb 27 filed by TSC, naming ATC as the first respondent and WCT Dubai branch as the second respondent.
“TSC is claiming from the JV a total quantified sum of 107.73 million dirham (RM130.56 million) being alleged sums due pursuant to and under the subcontract and further unquantified sums for legal costs, arbitration costs, and interest,” it said.
WCT stressed that it will take the necessary legal actions to defend itself and to oppose the claims.
