ALOR GAJAH: Police have arrested a man for snatching and assaulting his ex-girlfriend at the Ubaidah Mosque compound in Kampung Melaka Pindah.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 38-year-old suspect was apprehended at 7 pm the same day at a house in Jalan Ayer Hitam Lendu.
“The suspect, a pensioner with two criminal records and eight drug-related records, has been detained for investigations under Section 363 for kidnapping and Section 326 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing injury using a sharp weapon,“ he said in a statement.
The incident occurred at approximately 4.30 pm when the 35-year-old woman was abducted near the mosque.
The suspect brandished a 25cm knife and forced the woman into his car.
“Once inside, the victim was beaten, punched in the head and stomped on the chest for two to three minutes,“ Dzulkhairi said.
The suspect then transferred the victim to his Proton Wira and drove away with a samurai sword at her chest.
When he stopped for water at a shop in Taman Sutera Indah, the victim sent a WhatsApp message and live location to her ex-husband for help.
The suspect later stopped at a village house in Alor Gajah where two men, believed to be the victim’s siblings, approached and broke the car window.
This led to a struggle during which the victim escaped and struck the suspect in the face with a flower pot.
Police and an ambulance arrived minutes later, taking the suspect away and sending the victim to Alor Gajah Hospital.
The victim suffered a stab wound to the right triceps muscle requiring four stitches.
“The motive for the incident is believed to have stemmed from the suspect’s dissatisfaction after the victim refused to reconcile with him when she discovered he had a wife and children,“ Dzulkhairi said. – Bernama
