KUALA LUMPUR: The government is finalising a new agriculture sector policy to address increasingly complex food security challenges through an integrated, mission-driven approach.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the policy focuses on efficient agricultural production, agro-food system sustainability and regional food diplomacy.
It also emphasises healthy nutrition and inclusive economic growth through evidence-based strategies.
“This policy will also be strengthened with specific legislation to coordinate and standardise the implementation of policies and actions between the various agencies and ministries involved,“ Anwar said in a Facebook post.
He stressed that this step is crucial to strengthen governance and ensure effective implementation of the National Food Security Policy.
The Prime Minister noted that alongside the 13th Malaysia Plan implementation, the agricultural sector requires strengthening through more sustainable and technology-oriented approaches.
He earlier chaired the Cabinet Committee Meeting on the National Food Security Policy, which discussed strategies to catalyse the entire agricultural industry.
The meeting focused on developing comprehensive approaches to transform Malaysia’s food production capabilities amid global challenges. – Bernama
