Ex-cop charged with causing stepdaughter's death

KUALA LUMPUR: A former policeman was charged with abuse and causing culpable homicide not amounting to murder of his two year-old stepdaughter, two years ago, at a Sessions court, today.
Muhammad Khairuanuar Baharuddin, 35, claimed trial to a principal charge of causing culpable homicide not amounting to murder of Hanis Amanda Mohd Zafil, with the knowledge that it is likely to cause death.
The charge is under section 304(b) of the Penal Code, which is punishable with 10 years jail term, if convicted.
Muhammad Khairuanuar also faces an optional charge of abusing and causing physical injury. He claimed trial to the optional charge.
The charge is under Section 31(1)(a) and 31(2)(a) of the Child Act 2001, is punishable with a maximum fine of RM20,000 or 10 years jail term or both.
Muhammad Khairuanuar was charged with committing both the offences at a house F-03, Lojing Height 1, Jalan 1/27C, Section 5, Wangsa Maju, between 3pm and 10.13pm on Nov 6, 2015.
No bail was offered.
Sessions judge Azian Othman fixed March 31, 2017 for mention to allow the accused to appoint a lawyer. Deputy Public Prosecutor K. Vasugi prosecuted the case.
