Jail and seven lashes of rotan for insurance fraud

KUANTAN: A business manager of an insurance company was jailed for three months and ordered to receive seven lashes of the cane by the Magistrate's Court here on two counts of insurance claim fraud amounting to RM805,000.
Magistrate Noor Zaihan Mohamad Ali imposed the sentence on the business manager of the Kuantan branch of Takaful Malaysia, Aidy Syukri Yahya, 43, after the accused pleaded guilty as soon as the charges were read to him.
On the first charge, Aidy Syukri was found to have committed the fraud against Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad which led the company to transfer RM402,500 in cash into the account of Syarikat TM Asset Management owned by him to obtain insurance on the death of Mohd Shafiee Ngah, 49.
On the second charge, Aidy Syukri was found to have committed a similar offence to get the insurance claim on the death of Norhazaimi Abd Wahab, 47, who was the wife of Mohd Shafiee, which led the insurance company to transfer a similar amount of money to the company of the accused.
Both offences were alleged to have been committed at premises No. 45, ground floor of Darul Takaful Jalan Teluk Sisek, here on March 8.
For the record, Mohd Shafiee and Norhazaimi died after an accident at KM116 Jalan Kuantan-Johor Bahru near Rompin on Jan 22 this year. — Bernama
