241 CT Scan, 104 MRI machines installed at hospitals nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 241 Computed Tomography Scanners (CT Scan) and 104 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines have been installed at hospitals nationwide says Health Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya.
He said of the total, 69 CT Scan machines were installed at government and military hospitals, while the rest were placed at private and university hospitals.
A total of 31 MRI machines were placed at government and military hospitals while 73 were installed at private and university hospitals, he added.
"Thus far, all state hospitals have been installed with MRI facility, and there are 15 major specialist hospitals which have yet to be equipped with MRI machine. For CT scan, all major specialist hospitals are already installed with the facility while 10 minor specialist hospitals have yet to be equipped with the scanner.
"We do have plans to install MRI and CT Scan, but in stages, as the they are expensive," he said when replying to Dr Ko Chung Sen (DAP-Kampar) on the number and location of MRI and CT scan at hospitals nationwide, during the oral question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Hilmi added that an MRI unit (excluding installation) cost RM7 million while a CT Scan cost RM1.4 million per unit and would increase to RM2.4 million (including installation). — Bernama
