BANGKOK: There are currently 421 Malaysians being detained in Thai prisons, and their welfare is being looked into by the Malaysian embassy.
Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel said the embassy viewed seriously the welfare of every Malaysian in the country, even prisoners.
"We pay attention to the welfare of every Malaysian in Thailand. Although they are in prisons throughout Thailand, we never forget them," he told Bernama here recently.
Last week, he and several embassy personnel visited the Khao Bin Central Prison in Ratchaburi province, west of Thailand to meet 16 Malaysian prisoners there.
Among the 16 Malaysian prisoners, said Jojie, the oldest individual was 71-year-old, while the youngest was 39. — Bernama
