Best from van Buuren at ASOT650 KL

LAST Friday, rave partygoers were treated to what could be the most defining trance music party of the year.
Hosted by Future Music Festival Asia and held at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, A State of Trance (ASOT) 650 Kuala Lumpur: New Horizons saw the trance master himself, legendary Dutch music producer and DJ Armin van Buuren, leading a lineup of equally-talented deejays for a heart-pumping experience.
Revving the party mood at the main stage (Stage 1) was Ramsey Westwood before Trimix took over to keep the beat going.
There were also interactive lifestyle, game and food booths lined up around the event area. But by the time MaRlo appeared to weave his musical magic, most of the crowd had already gathered at the front of the stage.
The high spirits lasted through to Omnia, Andrew Rayel and Markus Schulz’s sets but the highlight of the night was, undoubtedly, van Buuren’s set which started at about 11pm.
Lasers pierced rapidly into the dark overhead as pyrotechnics shot out into the sky in tandem with van Buuren’s fist-pumping and pulsating beats, remixing crowd favourites such as Gareth Emery’s Concrete Angel and U, Dart Rayne, Yura Moonlight and Katty Heath’s Stole the Sun, and a more emotional tune Ramelia by Ram among others.
He also paid a one-minute tribute to the plight of the families of passengers in the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370.
Before he retired for the night to make way for the final act by German EDM powerhouse Paul van Dyk, van Buuren treated his bobbing fans to his chart-topping This is What It Feels Like.
As the night ended, the 25,000 attendees dispersed with a heavy heart but none dissatisfied with the visual and aural feast that night.
