AG rejects representation by actor Sofi Jikan over drug charge

PETALING JAYA: The Attorney-General's Chambers has rejected a representation filed by KL Gangster movie actor, Sofi Jikan to withdraw a drug charge preferred against him three months ago.
The prosecution, represented by deputy public prosecutor Natasha Chin Le Jy informed the magistrate's court here of the matter during the proceedings today.
Following the decision, Magistrate Nurul Huda Zakariya set June 6 for case management.
On Feb 13, Sofi or his real name Mohamad Shoffi Jikan, 48, who was represented by lawyer Datuk Haniff Hashim, pleaded not guilty to using 11-nor-delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carboxylic acid (THC) at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters narcotics department office at 11.15pm on Feb 6.
He was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine of up to RM5,000 or both, upon conviction.
Sofi was arrested on Feb 7 about 10pm when he appeared at the Mutiara Damansara police station to give a statement following a police report lodged by actor Datuk Farid Kamil several months earlier. — Bernama
