Cancellation of beer festival due to security concerns, IGP stresses

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun reiterated that the police's decision to not allow the Better Beer Festival to go on is not due to the 'perceived threat' but due to "security concerns" involving militants who were planning to sabotage the event.
In a statement today, he said the people must take note that the police have never cancelled the craft beer festival for the past five years.
"Thus, it is clear that the cancellation of this year's event came not due to any political pressure, religious sentiment or sensitivity," he said.
Fuzi further stressed that the police will never bow down to any parties urging them to reveal details of the 'security threat' raised following information received by their intelligence, to avoid any untoward incidents during the event.
"Being one step ahead of any militant attack is not an easy job and the police are always prepared to put the people's safety as our utmost priority," he said adding that police will stand firm with the decision to not allow the event to go on.
On Sept 21, Fuzi announced that the Better Beer Festival was not allowed to go on because the police have "security concerns" involving militants who were planning to sabotage the event.
He said police received information that militants and some unknown groups plan to disturb the event.
