Empowering street friends
AIRASIA'S inflight magazine travel360’s digital expansion, travel360.com, is working with non-profit grassroots community organisation Yellow House and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to offer an exclusive ‘travel360 Dance-walking Tour’ to visitors.
Working with Yellow House through its Unseen Tours KL project, the travel360 Dance-walking Tour is led by trained former homeless and underprivileged urban people as tour associates.
This unique tour, which includes interpretative dancing and flash mobs around local landmarks and back alleys, allows visitors to experience the sights, smells and sounds of Kuala Lumpur.
Participants will also learn bits of history dating back to the late 1800s abour how the city developed into what it is today.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan recently unveiled a special mural to mark the collaboration, with travel360.com CEO Spencer Lee, and Yellow House founder Shyam Priah in attendance.
Lee said that this collaboration will not only see tourism help transform the lives of people from different backgrounds, but also provide employment opportunities to their street friends in Kuala Lumpur by training them to become effective guides.
The mural is located on Lorong Bandar 20, Jalan Tun H.S. Lee in Kuala Lumpur city centre, and close to the Sri Mahamariamman Temple.
The swings depicted in the mural exude positivity and stability in a childlike nature, while hopefully, give a more positive public perception of these marginalised street people.
An interactive element is also installed on the mural to encourage the public to share their passion to travel.
The travel360 Dance-walking Tour is available at RM85 per person on the travel360.com website.
