PETALING JAYA: Biro Guaman Wanita (Guamnita) today said Barisan Nasional leaders, especially those from Umno, should not blame Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak alone for their recent loss in the general election.
It's director, Azlinda Baroni said the onus should be on all the party leaders who should have been more sensitive to the needs of the rakyat.
"Since the May 9 polls, several leaders from Umno, the largest component party in the coalition, have openly voiced their dissatisfaction, with many of them blaming Najib for the defeat.
"However, is it unfair for just the former party president to take the brunt for the party's dismal performance.
"If the rakyat were unhappy with Najib alone, then they would have only voted him out of Pekan. The fact here is that the rakyat were not only unhappy with Najib, but the entire BN coalition – right from Umno to MCA, MIC, Gerakan and even PPP," she said in a statement.
She said the people, especially those who were so badly affected by the poor economic situation were getting more and more angry and irritated each day and instead of addressing these issues, Umno leaders continued with their arrogant, selfish acts.
She said the distance between Umno leaders and the rakyat was simply too great.
"They were up there on their pedestals while the rakyat were suffering down below. Now that the ship is sinking, members like Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed who had previously spoken against overseas voters and their right to vote, are now trying to disassociate themselves from Najib.
"One wonders where Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos has suddenly disappeared to?
"Do you think the rakyat will ever forget all the ridiculous acts he did to win favour from Umno leaders – his towel, beer breaking and other antics?" she asked.
On reports that Umno and MCA were contemplating becoming multi-racial parties, Azlinda said that if they are truly sincere, then the next best thing to do would be for the MCA and MIC to dissolve and merge under one United Malaysian National Organisation party.
"A clause in their party constitution should clearly state that a Chinese and Indian be appointed as the deputy prime minister 1 & 2 should the party come into power.
This is the only possible formula which may be accepted by the rakyat. Gone are the days when racist-based speeches and ceramah drew the crowds," she added.
