Hero warden laid to rest

SUNGKAI: The family of a teacher who perished in a fire at Pusat Tahfiz Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Jalan Keramat Ujung, Kuala Lumpur felt "proud" that Mohd Yusof Md. sacrificed his life to save the pupils during the incident.
The deceased's sister, Norazni Md. 37, said: "We received the news calmly (it is) fated by God as he died saving lives."
"Yusof rushed to alert the pupils to get out of the premises but in the end he was trapped," she told reporters at her house in Felda Besout 4 here.
According to Norazni, her brother who is also the warden was sleeping at the ground floor of the building when the incident occurred.
"We were told of the fire by neighbours and we did not know whether he was alive or dead at that point of time.
"The worst was confirmed when his name was not the list of those saved or injured," she added.
Mohd Yusof, 26, a bachelor told Norazni that the school will shift to another premise soon, when they met during Hari Raya Haji in Besout.
He entered the school at the age of 15 to enrol as a student and later became a teacher.
When asked whether the deceased had plans to marry, Norazni said:"My brother wanted to settle down but he needed money."
Meanwhile the hearse carrying the body from Kuala Lumpur Hospital arrived at the Assalamuddin Mosque , Felda Gunung Besout 4 here for prayers at 8.40pm.
His remains was later buried at the Felda Gunong Besout 4 burial ground.
Some 300 teary eyed family members, villagers and settlers paid their last respects.
