Illegal sand mining: Three held, company accounts frozen

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) froze RM4 million belonging to a company following the arrest of three individuals believed to be involved illegal mining of sand and gravel in Selangor today.
According to an MACC source, two directors of a sand mining firm and an employee of an advertisement firm were detained for conspiring in the activity.
"The investigation team inspected several lorries suspected of loading illegal sand in an operation mounted at 10am and several accounts owned by the company involving a total amount of RM4 million were also frozen.
"The victims were detained to facilitate investigations on illegal sand and gravel mining activities in a location in Kajang since 2014 They will be brought to court tomorrow to be placed under remand," the source told Bernama.
Meanwhile, MACC's investigation department senior director Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani confirmed the arrests. — Bernama
