No mass monitoring on social media, emails: MCMC

CYBERJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today refuted claims that it carries out mass monitoring of social media or emails.
MCMC acting chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Ali Mohamad Nor said any investigations into social media postings and enforcement action were carried out as a result of complaints or requests by law enforcement agencies.
"MCMC does not carry out mass monitoring of any social media or emails.
"The government upholds the right to freedom of speech and privacy within the confines of the law and MCMC will assist if there is a breach of the law," he said in a statement here today. — Bernama
