KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister today described the People's Housing Programme (PPR) as being among the biggest successes of the government as well as demonstrating the Federal Government's ongoing commitment to provide for the people.
Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) said the government had now successfully completed 83,759 housing units through 120 PPR projects for the needy.
"The government has allocated RM6 billion to enable the people to own PPR houses at RM35,000 in Peninsular and RM42,000 in Sabah and Sarawak.
"A sum of RM80,000 to RM120,000 subsidies has been channeled by the government for each PPR unit," he said in his blog NajibRazak.com on PPR.
Najib said all the housing unit projects were sold at much lower prices than the market prices, but the quality was similar to those built by private developers.
The prime minister said that applications for PPR projects would be opened such as those for PPR Kepong, PPR Mukim Naga in Kubang Pasu, PPR Kota Baru in Kelantan, PPR Kampung Tok Suboh in Penang while PPR Machang in Kelantan had already been opened for application.
"The Federal Government has always fulfilled its promise to provide for the people. This is unlike the Pakatan Harapan governments in Selangor and Penang, which failed to provide affordable housing under the respective state governments," he said.
In Selangor, he said nine of my Selangorku projects were canceled. While in Penang even after nine years, the state government still failed to hand over the keys to affordable houses to the people.
Najib said the government encouraged the people to apply for affordable houses as they understood that affordable housing was also the people's right. — Bernama
