Rais Yatim yet to receive letters over sacking from Umno

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Rais Yatim says he had not received any letter from Umno regarding his sacking from the party for speaking out against it.
Although Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had said on Saturday that he had issued letters to Rais, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz and Tun Daim Zainuddin, Rais said he has no knowledge of the letter.
"I have not received a letter from the secretary-general even though he has announced that he has sent it to me," he said in Bangsar today.
He said this situation is strange because procedure calls for a show-cause letter first, before a sacking is made.
"I find it strange because this process involves a show-cause letter which I also have not received," he said.
"I only found out about the matter on social media and some news outlets on Saturday," he said.
Although he is not sure of his status in the party, the former cabinet minister and Umno stalwart says he will accept the party's decision to be sacked as long as due process is followed.
"If the decision is made by a committee or panel then I will accept it with an open heart," he added.
He however asked for the opportunity to defend himself.
"I must be able to defend myself from the accusations being hurled at me," he said.
Rafidah and Daim were sacked for openly supporting the opposition, led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and appearing in talks on their campaign trail in the lead up to GE14.
