Raj's Banana Leaf Restaurant shut down (Updated)

PETALING JAYA: The authorities pulled the shutters down on Raj's Banana Leaf Restaurant in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, this morning.
This follows a video, which has since gone viral, of its workers washing dishes in a puddle in the backlane of the restaurant.
A notice was posted outside the restaurant to inform the public of the closure.
It was issued under the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur licensing of food establishment bylaws 2016.
Some 10 officers from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Federal Territory Health Department were at the premises earlier today.
DBKL Health and Environment Department deputy director Chandrakant Patel said the closure notice was indefinite, pending the restaurant's cleanliness and hygiene review by the authorities.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry (KKM) in a statement confirmed that the department had conducted a joint investigation with DBKL.
"KKM issued three notices under Section 32B of the Food Act 1983. We found that the restaurant operators failed to get anti-typhoid vaccination, failed to attend training related to food handling and the restaurant failed to register with the KKM," the statement read.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Consumers Association (Maconas) president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill urged DBKL and the Federal Territory Health Department to revoke the restaurant's licence.
"Slapping them with a temporary closure and fine will not deter such irresponsible outlets from committing similar acts," he said.
"We need to put our foot down and show that the authorities will take drastic measures to curb such incidents. Giving excuses that the act was carried out by new workers is not acceptable.
"It's just common sense ... one can imagine how long has such an action been going on. The restaurant operator has no regard for the well being and the health of consumers who patronise the restaurant."
Badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei, who was said to be a part owner of the restaurant, has refuted any link to the banana leaf business despite an ownership check that revealed his name as a company director.
However, a check with the Companies Commission of Malaysia website showed Lee listed as a director in Intercompass Sdn Bhd, which in turn owns Raj Banana Leaf.
The other directors are Muhammad Rizal Rahman and Muhammad Hafisze Hamid.
The restaurant management had issued an apology on Facebook, saying the incident "has never happened before, and should not have happened".
