Success of BN consensus cannot be emulated in short period of time: Annuar

KOTA BARU: The success of Barisan Nasional (BN) in developing a strong spirit of consensus among its 13 component parties cannot be emulated or achieved by any other political coalition in a short period of time, said Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
He said this was because BN had gone through a very long journey to become a matured coalition in deciding its policies, manifesto and symbol to hold its component parties together.
"For a newly-formed political pact, the consensus is vague, the policies are unclear, and of course there will be a messy situation. If they cannot handle themselves at that initial stage, I cannot imagine what will happen to our country if they take over power.
"It is not easy to rule a country, there is no shortcut. That is why we don't want the people to decide just based on issues or sentiments, we are confident that the voters will use their wisdom (to give their mandate to the right coalition to form the government)," he told reporters at the declaration ceremony of Tan Sri Annuar Musa Al Hamra Red One Academy (TSAM ARMY) here today.
Annuar said this in response regarding the dispute over seat allocation among the Pakatan Harapan component parties in several states, including Kedah, Selangor and Terengganu.
On the propagation of fake news to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak-led government, Annuar said each leader would face a spread of allegations, which is a form of character assassination, by some people who were craving for power.
He said said the more good the prime minister made, the more criticism and allegations would be hurled at him to bring him down.
"For someone who has served under four prime ministers, I can say that none of them had been spared from character assassination allegations and hate campaigns.
"When I worked with (Tun) Dr Mahathir (Mohamad), I had nightmares because I had to defend him from various allegations, including being called "maha firaun", "maha zalim", dictator ... I can give you the whole list. But, as a Cabinet Minister and Umno Supreme Council member, we have to always defend Dr Mahathir," he added. — Bernama
