GEORGE TOWN: Syerleena Abdul Rashid, who is contesting the Seri Delima state seat, said she will not be deterred by threats made against her campaign team.
In a press conference held at the DAP headquarters here, Syerleena said she would not be cowed by the threats of violence against her campaign following a ceramah in Taman Tun Sardon on Thursday night.
"They may think I'm scared because I'm a woman, but I assure you I will not be intimidated and will not compromise," she said, adding that she will prioritise the safety of her team.
Earlier during the ceramah, a group of people at a nearby coffee shop started shouting during a speech by RSN Rayer, who is the DAP candidate for the Jelutong parliament seat.
After the event ended, the emcee of the ceramah, Mohd Sharizul Muiz, who was on his way home, was threatened by a motorcyclist.
He said when he stopped at the junction of Jalan Tembaga and Jalan Masjid Negeri, a motorcyclist knocked on his car window and warned him to be careful.
Mohd Sharizul has since lodged a police report on the incident.
Syerleena is facing a three-cornered fight in the seat against Barisan Nasional's Khoo Kay Teong and Tan Yang Yung from Malaysian United Party.
