OAXACA, Mexico: A woman and two children were crushed to death by collapsing houses as Tropical Storm Beatriz swept southern Mexico, and one person remains missing, authorities said Friday.
Beatriz dumped heavy rains on the state of Oaxaca and lashed it with maximum sustained winds of 70kph Thursday night, damaging homes and roads.
State disaster management official Armando Bohorquez said a 10-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl were killed when their house collapsed, as well as a woman of 25.
A man is also missing in the same town where the children were killed, San Marcial Ozolotepec, he told AFP.
"His family reports he went missing during the storm," he said.
Beatriz is now a remnant low-pressure area, according to the US National Hurricane Centre, but could still trigger "life-threatening flash floods" in Oaxaca before dissipating, which is expected overnight.
Classes have been cancelled in 13,000 schools across the state, officials said. — AFP
