Veteran actress Lai Meng dies
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian veteran actress Datuk Lai Meng, affectionately known as 'Lai Meng Yi' or aunty Lai Meng died at the age of 90, last night.
According to Sinchew Daily news report, the actress leaves behind two sons and a daughter.
Lai, whose real name is Lai Kwai Yoon, made her debut as part of a four-member group in a popular radio comedy sketch in the 1950s.
Thereafter, she became famous in the popular TV series Empat Sekawan which was first aired on RTM in 1966 that ran for two decades and ended in the 1980s.
The actress also gained fame for her role as a mother suffering from Alzheimer's disease in Singaporean filmmaker Jack Neo's Money No Enough II in 2008.
Lai received a Datukship from the Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah in 2013.
It was also reported that the veteran actress was admitted to hospital due to a critical illness on May 1. — Bernama
