KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will face a five-cornered fight in defending her party's stronghold seat in Pandan.
She will be facing Barisan Nasional's Datuk Leong Kok Wee, PAS' Mohamed Sukri Omar, Parti Rakyat Malaysia's (PRM) Jenice Lee Ying Ha and independent candidate Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz for the Pandan parliamentary seat.
As for the Pandan Indah state seat, Parti Amanah Negara's Izham Hashim, PAS' Datuk Iskandar Samad and Datuk Mohd Haniff Koslan from BN will be fighting for it.
The Teratai state will be contested by Brian Lai (PH-DAP), Liew Pok Boon (MCA-BN), Jenice Lee (PRM) and Mohd Irman Abdul Wahab (PAS).
The candidate announcement was made by returning officer Hasrolnizam Shaari at the Ampang Municipal Council about 11am.
When asked by reporters if PKR would garner the support from PAS supporters who voted for incumbent Rafizi Ramli in the last election, she said that voters can decide for themselves.
"It is actually quite straightforward. If PAS is seen friendly with BN, the voters can make it out for themselves," she said.
Rafizi Ramli was not allowed to contest after Shah Alam sessions court found him guilty for leaking account details of National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFC) and slapped him with a 30-month jail sentence.
Supporters of the candidates were gathered in front of the municipal hall as early as 8.30am.
There were some who jeered as PRM's candidate Jenice Lee walked in with her small group of supporters.
She was formerly a DAP member who was sacked when she contested as an Independent back in GE13.
Independent candidate Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz who is a lawyer and social activist popularly known as Buzze Azam is known for his legal aid and represented the accused in the Low Yatt theft case and said that he is representing Zakir Naik as well.
