Hutan Simpan Kekal Kina Benuwa bakal jadi hab ekopelancongan labuan

LABUAN: Hutan Simpan Kekal Kina Benuwa yang baru diwartakan di Labuan bakal menjadi pusat tumpuan ekopelancongan dan merangsang ekonomi tempatan, kata Menteri Sumber Asli dan Kelestarian Alam Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Beliau berkata transformasi itu juga bertujuan memelihara hutan paya bakau yang tidak ternilai di pulau itu, berpotensi meningkatkan sektor perikanan di sekitar tanah lembap.

“Transformasi Hutan Simpan Kekal Kina Benuwa sebagai lokasi ekopelancongan di Labuan ialah usaha kementerian untuk menjana pendapatan bagi ekonomi tempatan, selaras dengan aspirasi Perdana Menteri yang ingin memberikan perhatian khusus kepada Labuan.

“Kami berjaya mewartakan lebih 60 hektar hutan paya bakau Kina Benuwa sebagai hutan simpan kekal tahun lepas.

“Sifat utuh hutan paya bakau menyediakan asas kukuh untuk transformasinya menjadi kawasan ekopelancongan dan pemuliharaan, sekali gus akan menyumbang kepada ekonomi tempatan,“ katanya pada sidang media selepas melawat Hutan Simpan Kekal Kina Benuwa di sini hari ini.

Nik Nazmi berkata rancangan sedang dibuat untuk menubuhkan sebuah pejabat di pulau ini bagi mentadbir dan mempromosikan hutan simpan kekal berkenaan.

“Langkah itu dilihat sebagai kaedah strategik untuk menguruskan tapak ekopelancongan baharu dengan cekap,“ katanya sambil menambah keluasan hutan simpan kekal di Wilayah Persekutuan kini meningkat kepada 152.901 hektar, berbanding 84.62 hektar sebelum ini.

Nik Nazmi turut menyatakan komitmen kementerian untuk menjalin kerjasama strategik dengan Perbadanan Labuan bagi pengurusan hutan simpan yang berkesan.

Pada 26 Julai tahun lepas, beliau berkata pewartaan itu merupakan komitmen kerajaan ke arah pemuliharaan dan pemeliharaan hutan paya bakau, selaras dengan Rancangan Fizikal Zon Pesisir Pantai Negara II, dan merupakan hutan simpan kekal pertama diwartakan di Labuan di bawah Akta Perhutanan Negara 1984 (Akta 313). –Bernama
