U Mobile strengthens presence in Sabah with aggressive next gen 5G network expansion

As part of its 5G strategy, the telco is marking the wider availability of its ULTRA5G experience in Sabah with a large-scale consumer music, food and fashion festival called CARA U Sabah ULTRA5G Fest

KOTA KINABALU: U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, has strengthened presence in Sabah through the expansion of its ULTRA5G experience.

ULTRA5G now covers more areas in Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Beaufort and Kudat, to name just a few.

Indoor ULTRA5G coverage is also available at key buildings like Imago Mall and Kota Kinabalu International Airport, with more to come.

As part of its 5G strategy, the telco is marking the wider availability of its ULTRA5G experience in Sabah with a large-scale consumer music, food and fashion festival called CARA U Sabah ULTRA5G Fest.

During the three-day festival taking place between February 6-8, 2026 at Jetty DBKK, attendees may look forward to performances by local and international artistes as well as family-friendly activities such as a Karaoke Bus and ULTRA Pickleball.

Another key feature of this festival is that participants have the chance to experience firsthand the difference of ULTRA5G speeds and 5G innovations via showcases that demonstrate what U Mobile’s next gen 5G network can do with twice the capacity and lower latency.

U Mobile also has a dedicated booth where attendees are able to trial AI applications such as AI Wardrobe and AI Grooming.

With this latest milestone, the telco believes Sabahans will be able to reap the advantages from their 5G network expansion and enjoy the full benefits of the ULTRA5G experience.

On the consumer front, U Mobile customers will now enjoy higher quality connectivity experiences with low latency such as crystal-clear video calls as well as ultra smooth live streaming, even in high impact areas where coverage might be congested.

As for enterprises and sectors such as retail, transport hubs and public sector offices, seamless indoor ULTRA5G unlocks digitalisation opportunities beyond connectivity, including enterprise-grade services, IoT deployments, AI solutions and cybersecurity capabilities that enable smarter building operations, enhanced customer services and more efficient workflows for owners, tenants and customers.

The company is keen to customise its offerings to the varied needs of enterprises beyond just connectivity, but also with 5G-related applications as part of a wider enterprise strategy.

“U Mobile has been aggressively expanding our next gen 5G network and we are delighted to have further strengthened our presence in Sabah, supporting the state’s digital transformation and the growth of its digital economy.

With the increased availability of our ULTRA5G experience, apart from enhancing customer experience, we are also enabling Sabahans to unlock digitalisation opportunities through 5G-A and AI applications, alongside enterprise-grade solutions and cybersecurity safe services,” highlights Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile.

He adds, “As a Malaysian company, we are also actively collaborating with local partners such as Celcom Timur Sabah for fibre backhaul, creating local job opportunities, skills development and business growth to further benefit Sabahans as part of our ongoing rollout effort.”

As of January 2026, U Mobile has added another full-service retail store at Kompleks Karamunsing where consumers will enjoy personalised assistance, the latest devices and access to U Mobile’s complete range of plans, including offerings tailored for East Malaysia such as U Borneo Prepaid, U Borneo Postpaid and U Home 5G Borneo.
