Malaysia aims for RM2 billion pineapple exports by 2027

Malaysia targets RM2 billion in pineapple exports by 2027, building on RM1.4 billion in 2025, with new farms and processing centres to boost the industry.

KUALA KUBU BAHRU: The government aims to increase pineapple exports to RM2 billion by 2027 as part of efforts to strengthen the high-value industry.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin said the country’s pineapple exports reached RM1.4 billion in 2025, amounting to 76,000 tonnes to international markets.

“We aim for this export value to continue rising and reach RM2 billion by 2027,” he told reporters after a working visit to the Sungai Gumut Pineapple Collection Centre.

He said the industry has the potential to generate around RM9,000 a month in income per hectare for growers through modern farm management.

Chan said the visit included a groundbreaking ceremony for a new collection, processing and packaging centre to strengthen the industry’s value chain.

He highlighted a 109-hectare MD2 pineapple plantation project in Sungai Gumut with a crop survival rate of over 97%.

The deputy minister said Selangor has great potential to develop into a modern agri-food hub thanks to its logistical advantages.

“We want this area to become a focus for processing, packing, branding and exporting,” he added.

To support development, the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board has provided seedlings, grants and technical guidance.

Chan said a 2026 development project in Selangor will add 49 hectares with incentives worth RM1.3 million, benefiting around 26 operators.

He added that the Selangor government has disbursed RM113,300 to pineapple entrepreneurs, with over RM1.2 million in aid benefiting 38 operators in Hulu Selangor alone.

“The Federal and the Selangor Governments will continue to strengthen strategic cooperation to develop the pineapple industry sustainably,” he said.
