PUTRAJAYA: The National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) signed an MoU with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) to foster collaboration in Malaysia’s cyber security and cryptology initiatives, including cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) security and digital sovereignty.
The MoU exchange, witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, took place on the sidelines of the second Nacsa Cyber Security Summit (NCSS) 2026 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
The partnership will facilitate information sharing and technical discussions, explore joint research, support training and capacity building, and drive innovation and technology development.
In addition, the partnership will foster mutual understanding of legislative and technical requirements in cryptology—the application of encryption, authentication and other techniques that enable secure communications and data protection—and cyber security.
The collaboration will also explore potential areas of cooperation in AI security and digital sovereignty including policy dialogue, governance frameworks and technical considerations, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. This will support the development of robust governance frameworks and safeguards to protect critical infrastructure and essential services as AI becomes increasingly embedded across critical sectors.
“With cyber threats evolving in scale and sophistication, close collaboration between government and industry is essential to strengthen national resilience. Cyber security has become fundamental to economic growth, public confidence and national competitiveness,” said Huawei Malaysia Cyber Security and Privacy Protection officer Lee Han Ther.
Through this collaboration with Nacsa, he added, they look forward to combining global expertise with local capacity building to help Malaysia strengthen its cyber defences, enable the secure and responsible adoption of AI and contribute towards the development of a secure, resilient and trusted digital ecosystem for the nation.
Nacsa, the national lead agency for cyber security under the National Security Council in the Prime Minister’s Department, will lead the cooperation, while Huawei Malaysia will serve as a technology enabler. This collaboration aligns with Nacsa’s role in safeguarding the country’s National Critical Information Infrastructure and coordinating national efforts against cyber threats.
