Christopher dilantik Pengurus Media Piala Asia 2023

KUALA LUMPUR: Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Komunikasi dan Media Persatuan Bolasepak Malaysia (FAM) Christopher Raj (gambar) dilantik sebagai Pengurus Media Piala Asia 2023 yang akan membuka tirainya bermula 12 Jan hingga 10 Feb ini.

Pelantikan itu merupakan kali ketiga Christopher menguruskan hal ehwal media di kejohanan berprestij rantau Asia yang sebelum ini turut menggalasnya pada Piala Asia 2015 di Australia dan Piala Asia 2019 di Emiriah Arab Bersatu (UAE).

Christopher berkata beliau bakal bertugas di empat stadium terkemuka di Qatar – Stadium Al Janoub, Stadium Al Bayt, Stadium Jassim bin Hamad dan Stadium Lusail.

“Sebagai rekod, Stadium Lusail pernah menjadi venue aksi final Piala Dunia 2022, sekali gus menambahkan lagi tanggungjawab saya dalam memastikan kelancaran perlawanan yang bakal berlangsung di stadium berkenaan.

“Sepanjang kejohanan itu nanti, saya bertanggungjawab mengawal selia 15 perlawanan bermula daripada aksi pembukaan sehinggalah kemuncak perlawanan akhir yang dinanti-nantikan,“ katanya.

Tahun lepas, Christopher turut diberi tanggungjawab sebagai pengurus media pada kempen Piala Dunia Bawah 17 tahun (B-17) di Indonesia.

Malaysia yang menamatkan penantian 42 tahun untuk layak ke Piala Asia secara merit akan memulakan kempen Kumpulan E menentang Jordan pada 15 Jan, diikuti Bahrain (20 Jan) dan juara dua kali Korea Selatan pada 25 Jan ini.

Hanya juara dan naib juara setiap kumpulan bersama empat pasukan ketiga terbaik akan layak untuk pusingan 16 pasukan di Doha.

Ini merupakan penampilan keempat Malaysia dalam Piala Asia selepas layak secara merit pada 1976 di Iran, 1980 di Kuwait dan sebagai tuan rumah bersama pada 2007.

Malaysia tidak pernah mara ke pusingan 16 pasukan terbaik dalam Piala Asia pada tiga edisi sebelum ini. –Bernama
