Kian Meng-Pei Jing akui impian ke Paris semakin sukar

KUALA LUMPUR: Beregu campuran profesional negara Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing mengakui peluang mereka beraksi pada Sukan Olimpik Paris 2024 semakin tipis selepas tersingkir awal pada kejohanan Terbuka Malaysia 2024 hari ini.

Pasangan di ranking ke-25 dunia yang turun selaku wakil pertama tuan rumah di kejohanan itu, Kian Meng-Pei Jing terpaksa akur kepada gandingan Korea Selatan, Kim Won Ho-Jeong Na Eun 21-11, 21-16.

Dalam perlawanan pusingan pertama di Axiata Arena hari ini, Kian Meng-Pei Jing yang tewas pada set pertama, cuba bangkit pada set kedua mendahului 12-6.

Bagaimanapun, gandingan negara itu gagal meneruskan rentak permainan sekali gus tunduk kepada pasangan Korea Selatan yang menghuni ranking ketujuh dunia.

Ketika ditemui pemberita, Pei Jing, 31, berkata mereka sudah membuat persiapan rapi dan teruja untuk pembukaan musim 2024 namun tidak menyangka tersingkir awal pada kejohanan pertama tahun ini.

“Peluang layak ke Paris 2024 terjejas juga, tetapi setakat ini kita tak fikir banyak dan cuba untuk kembali ke kedudukan tinggi. Berharap kami dapat kembali cemerlang dalam kejohanan berikutnya,” katanya yang turut mengesahkan mereka kini bergerak sendiri tanpa penaja, selain digugurkan daripada program Road to Gold.

Sementara itu, Kian Meng, 29, yang jelas kecewa dengan kekalahan pada perlawanan hari ini, bertekad untuk bangkit pada Terbuka India, minggu depan.

“Walaupun kalah, kita masih berikan yang terbaik. Buat masa ini kita nak fokus kepada diri sendiri dulu untuk tingkatkan prestasi, tak nak fikir sangat mengenai penaja dan Paris 2024,” katanya.

Kian Meng-Pei Jing kini berada di kedudukan ke-24 dalam ranking kelayakan Olimpik, di belakang Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei (sembilan) yang berpeluang besar untuk meraih tiket kelayakan dan Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie (18).

Setiap negara mempunyai kuota maksimum dua wakil bagi satu kategori jika kedua-duanya menghuni kedudukan lapan terbaik pada tarikh kelayakan. –Bernama
