Malaysia’s ASEAN 2025 success credited to all citizens by minister

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil says ASEAN Summit success belongs to all Malaysians, praising hospitality and professionalism

PUTRAJAYA: The success of the recent 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits resulted from the hard work and dedication of all Malaysians rather than just the government.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated this was emphasised during today’s Cabinet meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

The Cabinet expressed its highest appreciation and gratitude to all parties who played important roles in making the prestigious summit successful.

“The Cabinet expresses its highest appreciation and thanks to all parties who have played a role in making the 47th ASEAN Summit a success, from those who were journalists, those who managed the stage, those involved in hospitality, those who took care of traffic, to those who provided food and drink,” he said during his weekly press conference.

Fahmi shared his experience accompanying the Timor-Leste delegation throughout the summit while expressing admiration for Malaysian professionalism and hospitality.

“The Timor-Leste delegation has stated that they felt that their entire experience at the 47th ASEAN Summit, including the accompanying officers, was accorded services by personnel with capabilities,” he added.

He noted the delegation recognised Malaysia’s success as host with this achievement belonging collectively to the Malaysian people.

The Cabinet also expressed condolences to the family of the late Mohd Yazid Zakaria, director of Istana Budaya Malaysian Traditional Orchestra, who passed away two days earlier.

Fahmi described the musician’s passing as a great loss for the country’s music industry while recalling their last meeting during the ASEAN Summit Gala Dinner.

“His passing left a lasting impression and he had previously received the National Figure of the Year in conjunction with the 2024 Labour Day Celebration,” he said.

The Cabinet meeting was informed of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s upcoming official working visit to South Korea for the APEC 2025 Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

Fahmi confirmed the Prime Minister would attend conference meetings and engage with leading companies including NVIDIA Corporation.

“Discussions with the industry are also towards supply chain issues, especially the resilience aspect of the supply chain,” he stated.

The Prime Minister will return to Malaysia immediately following the visit to resume his official duties. – Bernama
