Hat Yai residents cross power cables in floods

Viral videos show Hat Yai residents crossing power cables as floods leave rooftops as escape routes

VIRAL footage from Hat Yai has sparked alarm as residents were seen inching across suspended electricity cables to escape rising floodwaters that left streets submerged and rooftops barely visible.

The video, shared by Facebook user Kang Namthip, shows three men carefully balancing on power lines to reach safety. Floodwaters had risen to the second floor of homes, cutting off escape routes and leaving communities stranded.

In her caption, Namthip pleaded for urgent assistance, noting that communication with emergency services had failed and supplies were running dangerously low.

“Please feel sorry for us. More lives still waiting, hope to go out. Water up to second floor and water out. Please help. I can’t contact any of the units,” she wrote.

She reported being trapped with others in the Ponphichai Road area near Wat Phuttikaram, one of the hardest-hit locations.

Another clip she uploaded revealed residents perched on rooftops as strong currents swept away debris and obscured road markings. “Everyone has to find a way to get food,” she wrote, highlighting the growing desperation as basic necessities dwindled.

The videos have since gone viral, drawing millions of views and widespread reactions, particularly from Thai users.

They have become one of the most widely shared glimpses into the humanitarian challenges unfolding in Hat Yai, underscoring the urgent need for relief efforts.
