A KPDN officer reprimanded a Melaka eatery owner for claiming halal status while operating in filthy conditions with animal droppings and caged rats.
AN officer from the Domestic and Cost of Living Ministry recently reprimanded an eatery owner who had labelled the premises as halal despite keeping it in a shockingly unclean state.
Posted on the ministry’s Melaka branch Facebook page, the video showed an officer explaining to the owner what it means to operate a halal establishment, emphasising that the label entails requirements beyond the contents of the food and beverages served.
The officer also criticised the owner for allegedly claiming halal status without proper certification.

“How could you use the halal label and invite everyone to eat at your place, claiming it is clean? Being a halal restaurant is not only about the source of the food but also the process in preparing it – everything must be hygienic,” the KPDN officer said.
In the viral video, KPDN officers observed several hygiene violations at the Melaka eatery, including the food preparation area being strewn with animal droppings.
In another part of the food preparation area, a caged rat had droppings outside its cage. Additionally, the roof in the area had a hole, among other hygiene issues shown in the video.
In the end, the officer reiterated how wrong the eatery manager was to lure customers using the halal label and reminded him of the importance of maintaining cleanliness on the premises.
Netizens did not spare their criticism of the eatery’s poor hygiene and called for it to be shut down, deeming it a food safety hazard.
