Mermaid costume man “dancing” at drink stall goes viral in Kelantan

A man dressed as a mermaid dancing at a Pengkalan Chepa drink stall sparks outrage during Ramadan

A short video clip of a man donning a mermaid costume and dancing in front of a roadside drink stall believed to be located in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan, has gone viral on social media, triggering a wave of public criticism — particularly given that the incident occurred during the holy month of Ramadan.

The 26-second recording, which began circulating on Facebook as early as yesterday, shows the man — dressed in women’s clothing — dancing while holding a drink and performing mermaid-like movements in front of a stall selling air balang, a popular Malaysian-made concoction of multi-flavoured drinks.

The stunt is widely believed to have been staged as a form of promotional content aimed at boosting sales at the stall.

The clip quickly drew sharp condemnation from netizens, many of whom labelled the behaviour inappropriate and embarrassing, with sentiments running especially strong given the sensitivity of the Ramadan period.

Calls have also emerged from members of the public urging local authorities to revoke the stall’s business licence and take firm action against the individual involved.

It is learnt that the Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAHEAIK) has launched efforts to locate the individual in question for further action.
