“Yesterday, my second brother complained to me about his wife, saying she doesn’t look after her appearance after having a child.”
A Malaysian has sparked heated discussion online after sharing a family conversation involving her brother-in-law and his wife.
In an anonymous X post, the X user shared that her brother complained that his wife no longer made an effort to keep herself attractive after giving birth.
“Yesterday, my second brother complained to me about his wife, saying she doesn’t look after her appearance after having a child.”
However, the conversation took a turn when her eldest brother asked how much nafkah the second brother was giving his wife.
“He said RM70.”
Upon hearing the amount, she shared that even her eldest brother struggled to contain his anger.
The revelation quickly drew reactions from netizens, many of whom questioned how a woman was expected to maintain her appearance while being given only RM70 in allowance, particularly after childbirth.

One user remarked bluntly: “What can RM70 even do these days? It’s basically useless.”
Another netizen broke down the costs involved, pointing out that maintaining one’s appearance required consistent spending:
“At least RM300 to RM500 if you want decent-quality brands. Skincare can last one to two months depending on how often it’s used. Makeup can last three to six months depending on the type and frequency. It’s not like wives need to buy new products every month unless they’re chasing trends.”
